Monongahela National Forest

The Monongahela is nearly 1 million acres of National Forest located within the heart of West Virginia, much of which was devastated by coal mining and logging.

The US Forest Service and Green Forests Work are working to restore 1000 acres of the National Forest by adding trees (e.g., Chestnuts) and livestock back on to the land.

Understory’s role is to help them raise the philanthropic funding they need to support this critical work.
